AI governance refers to the frameworks, policies, processes, and oversight structures organizations use to ensure their AI systems are developed and deployed responsibly, ethically, and in compliance with applicable regulations. Effective AI governance addresses risk management, accountability, transparency, fairness, and regulatory compliance.
Key regulatory frameworks include the EU AI Act (the world's first comprehensive AI law), the EU Digital Services Act (DSA), the NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF), Executive Orders on AI in the United States, and sector-specific regulations including HIPAA (healthcare), FedRAMP (federal contracting), and SOX (financial services).
An AI governance consultant helps organizations assess their current AI governance posture, identify gaps relative to regulatory requirements and best practices, and design frameworks that are both defensible and operational.
