I have been a career coach since 2021. I came into coaching accidentally. I made a big transition from being a US diplomat to working for Facebook, and when I left, I had dozens of colleagues asking me how I did it. I helped them all and then I saw an opportunity for me to become a coach. I have since helped dozens of people make the transition from government to tech. Then, while working in Big Tech, I had people from other industries, including non-profit, social impact, as well as from the private sector, reaching out to me, to help them transition as well. All of my clients have reached out to me through word-of-mouth. The quality of my work has allowed me to spend zero time or dollars in outreach or sales.
My coaching philosophy is that, no matter what your job is, or how long you've been doing it, your skills are transferable. Most of my clients come to me thinking that, because they have been in government, or in a certain job for so long, they have no skills outside of that. They couldn't be more wrong. I approach our conversation by disabusing them of that idea. I connect with my clients so well because I had that exact mindset, I thought I had no skills and as a result, I struggled to convey my value to employers.
I help clients obtain clarity on what life will look like outside of the employer that has been part of their identity for so long. We work on revamping your resume and LinkedIn profile, two of the most important tools you have as a job applicant.
I make it clear that though your resume and LinkedIn profile are revamped, the work does not stop there. You still need to network 'like crazy', work on your personal brand and put yourself out there. And when you land those coveted interviews, remember it is a two-way conversation; you are interviewing a potential employer as much as you're being interviewed.
